CASE STUDY:

Engage! Summits, Banff

Engage! Summits is the world’s pre-eminent wedding and event business summit. Held multiple times a year at the most prestigious hotels and resorts in the world, the event brings together the best in the global luxury events industry for three days of inspiration and opportunity, with powerhouse speakers and creative excellence. Our founder, Angela Desveaux (a proud Canadian expat!), was appointed by the event producers as the first guest creative director in the event’s illustrious 10-year history and created a 100+ page Event Style Guide that directed the themes, vendors, and overall design direction for each portion of the event.

Working directly with a fabrication and production team, we also designed many of the event’s decor components, including the main stage backdrop, and trendsetting 3D shadow boxes that flanked both sides of the Gala ballroom, standing 25ft high x 40 ft wide.

The event logo incorporated the signature “E” that has been a prominent brand element of every Engage! Event. The crest-meets-badge icon design was a nod to the many Baronial crests on display throughout the storied host hotel, The Fairmont Banff Springs, uniquely located within Banff National Park.

Iconic Inspiration

Banff National Park was the first national park in Canada. With that in mind, the logo was designed to mimic the exact shape of the Parks Canada Warden Badge.

We concepted and designed a 100-page Event Style Guide that provided the event planner, sponsors, event designers, gifting team, florists, entertainment, and production crew with detailed visual and thematic direction for all facets of the three-day event.

The Event Color Palette was developed with the natural vibrancy of Banff in mind. From “Glacial Spring Teal” to “Canuck Canoe Red,” we ensured the palette told a story.

“Trading Post” Event Registration

It was important to us to ensure that some facets of the event design and branding were based on Banff historical and cultural references. An example of this was “The Trading Post Event Registration” we conceived. Here, attendees received a curated assortment of Canadian-made and locally sourced gifts in a set-up reminiscent of the early trading days of Hudson’s Bay Company.

We also researched and compiled a list of suggestions for the Gifting Program and created Event Wardrobe Mood Boards which guided the attire of 300+ attendees.

The Main Stage

The main speaker stage was designed to mimic a lakeside cabin, complete with Canadian canoes. We designed and produced a detailed render, and provided all graphics for the production and signage teams to install.

The Welcome Party

Our concept for the Welcome Party was to celebrate all things Canadian! With classic “red, white, and rustic” as our palette and FUN as our #1 objective, we welcomed attendees with all-Canadian experiences such as axe-throwing, sled dogs, tents, campfires, and s’mores.

We also designed all of the event graphics including lawn signs and bar decals.

The Railway Lunch

We concepted a vintage railway-themed lunch to celebrate the glamor and historic lore of the Canadian Pacific Railway (original developers of the host venue, The Fairmont Banff Springs).

We also designed placemats to highlight graphic vintage posters from this iconic era.

The Gala

Heavily inspired by the snowy mountain peaks, animals, and natural elements of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, we concepted the “Great White North” Gala.

Fun fact: Engage Galas are typically known for extravagant and abundant floral installs, yet one of the key challenges of working within a Canadian National Park was adhering to the strict legalities and restrictions for bringing in non-native flowers, as well as limited supply. With these unique parameters in mind, we turned to paper and shadow boxes as our two key inspiration drivers for the event design.
